Międzynarodowe Biennale Artystycznej Tkaniny Lnianej Z krosna do Krosna
MUZEUM RZEMIOSŁA W KROŚCIE
Z krosna do Krosna
INTERNATIONAL ARTISTIC LINEN CLOTH BIENNIAL

9 x Z Krosna do Krosna

The 9 x “Z krosna do Krosna” Exhibition is accompanying the 10th International ArtisticLinen Cloth Biennial and presents the artworks of laureates of the competition. The exhibits are stored in the Museum of Crafts in Krosno collection named “Z krosna do Krosna” Collection of Artistic Linen Cloth.

When in 2000 the Museum of Crafts in Krosno began to organise a first edition of the biennial, no one expected to collect such a substantial and unique collection of contemporary artistic textile. Among the names of authors – donors, certainly we should mention those that are inseparably connected with the phenomenon of the Polish School of Artistic Textiles – the phenomenon of flowering in the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s – Maria Teresa Chojnacka, Barbara Falkowska, Kazimiera Gidaszewska, Urszula Kołaczkowska, Dobrosława Kowalewska, Krystyna Mieszkowska-Dalecka, prof. Wojciech Sadley, Adela Szwaja, Krystyna Wojtyna-Drouet.

The “Z krosna do Krosna” Collection of Artistic Linen Cloth is a special kind of collection. The most important distinguishing features are material and size – 75% of linen in any form of occurrence and dimensions between 25 and 60 cm. It may be difficult to find a similar representation of artistic linen textile in contemporary collections. Linen is primarily a natural material, which is becoming harder and harder to obtain for artists, especially in the form of fibre. It can be said that the common and formerly known raw material has grown to the rank of exclusive artistic material. In addition, the medium format of fabrics in the collection of the Museum of Crafts in Krosno perfectly fills the gap between large-format fabrics and weaving miniatures characterized by collections belonging to the Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź (International Triennial of Tapestry) or the Museum of the City of Gdynia (International Baltic Mini Textile Triennial).

A significant part of the units belonging to the collection was made with traditional weaving techniques, which also raises the importance of it. The fact that the rich, medieval traditions trace back to the Middle Ages, underlines the value and legitimacy of collecting and systematically expanding the artistic collection of linen textile by the Museum – because there is no better place for linen than Krosno…
