Z krosna do Krosna
INTERNATIONAL ARTISTIC LINEN CLOTH BIENNIAL

History of MBATL

The idea of organising „Z krosna do Krosna” International Artistic Linen Cloth Biennial came to our mind in 2000. The event refers to rich weaving traditions of Subcarpathian region.
The competition is aimed at professional artists and its main objectives are: to refer to linen weaving traditions of the Krosno and of the region of Carpathian Mountains, to exhibit in Krosno artworks made of linen, to organise numerous cyclic meetings for artists, including exchanging thoughts and artistic experiences, to extend weaving artworks collection of the Museum of Crafts in Krosno, and to promote this collection in the Europe by organising travelling exhibitions.

The travelling exhibition is presented every two years, mainly in the region of Carpathian Mountains (Poland, Ukraine and Hungary). Usually the exhibition is presented a few times in different countries. The content of the exhibition is based on Professor Ewa Maria  Poradowska-Werszler experiences from organising the Small Weaving Forms Biennial. Professor Poradowska-Werszler was the artistic supervisor of the International Artistic Linen Cloth Biennial and Ewa Mańkowska (director of the Museum of Crafts in Krosno) was an organiser. Professor Irena Huml from the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences was an artistic patron of the exhibition.

The International Artistic Linen Cloth Biennial became very popular and it was highly commended not only by artists, but also by art critics. It was noticed by artistic communities working with cloth, but most important was the fact that it became high-ranking competition. The best proof is representatives of many countries taking part in the Biennial such as: Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Island, Japan, Canada, Latvia, Germany, Russia, Scotland, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, the USA, Hungary and Italy. We would like to emphasize that International Artistic Linen Cloth Biennial is the only event of this kind in the whole Subcarpathian region. Thanks to its status and long-standing popularity it is lastingly incorporated into the list of European events connected with artistic weaving.
